TURA, Jan 3: Governor Brigadier Dr BD Mishra (Retd), who convened a review meeting with the heads of departments of West Garo Hills at Circuit House here on Tuesday, asked officials to work in unison to ensure availability of essential food commodities for people.
His comments came in the context of shortfall of various essential commodities such as vegetables, meat and other products in the state as highlighted in a PowerPoint presentation of district profile.
Mishra advised district officials to work in tandem to reduce the amount of shortfall and take urgent step to increase the production as well as to oversee various developmental works in the region.
Governor, who conveyed New Year greetings to everyone, also highlighted the responsibilities of officers, who are supposed to discharge their duties with perseverance, commitment and accountability.
He also reminded them to work for the benefit and welfare of the people of the state and also help raise living standards of the people of the region. The Governor also met the members of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC). He asked them to utilise 100 per cent of the funds available in a stipulated time schedule focusing on quality work.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Swapnil Tembe, gave an overview of the activities and achievement of the administration at the meeting.
Chief Executive Member (CEM) of GHADC, Albinush R Marak, executive members of the Council, West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, VS Rathore, Additional Deputy Commissioners of the district, heads of all departments of West Garo Hills district were among others present at the meeting.
Prior to the meeting, the Governor attended a function at NEHU’s Tura campus and inspected the status report of construction work being implemented at the proposed site.
During his visit to NEHU Tura campus, the Governor virtually inaugurated a 94-room, double-bedded girls’ hostel within the premises of the university.
