SHILLONG, Jan 3: The Co-Founder and Director of I-PAC, Pratik Jain on Tuesday claimed the political advocacy group is giving sleepless nights to the National People’s Party (NPP) ahead of Assembly elections.
He further claimed that I-PAC is the reason why the NPP and its leaders are not in their comfortable zone.
“From Kong Ampareen’s response, it is pretty clear the NPP and its leaders are not in their comfortable space. Our rigorous approach and perseverance are the reasons for their sleepless nights. We take Kong Ampareen’s comment as an appreciation,” Jain said.
He was reacting to NPP spokesperson Ampareen Lyngdoh’s statement that she does not foresee the campaigns run by I-PAC helping the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Meghalaya.
Lyngdoh had claimed that the social media campaign by I-PAC would not have any impact in favour of the TMC. “I do not foresee the I-PAC campaign helping the TMC in Meghalaya like what had happened in West Bengal. The people on the ground will not understand the social media campaign since they are more concerned about basic amenities,” Lyngdoh had said.
But Jain said the NPP spokesperson’s statement was an admission that the government did not take any concrete steps to meet the basic demands of the people.
“Kong Ampareen’s statement is itself contradictory. By saying that ‘people are more concerned about the basic amenities’, she is admitting that no concrete step has been taken to meet the basic demands of the people by the NPP-led MDA Government,” Jain said.
He further stated that I-PAC always strives to set a citizen-centric agenda and make a meaningful contribution to political affairs and governance of the country, without necessarily being part of a political party.
“Hence, we are elated to work towards providing an alternative to the people of Meghalaya through Trinamool Congress,” he said.
The I-PAC helps political parties in their electoral campaigns. It is working for the TMC in Meghalaya.
