Lone KHNAM MLA resigns, set to join VPP

SHILLONG, Jan 12: KHNAM’s only MLA from North Shillong constituency, Adelbert Nongrum submitted his resignation to Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh here on Tuesday, and is likely to join Ardent Basaiawmoit’s Voice of the People’s Party (VPP).
Speaking to reporters, Nongrum said that he will be joining the VPP on January 16.
Nongrum maintained that he has strived for the overall development of the constituency in the past five years.
So far, a total of 14 MLAs have resigned.
It may be noted that five sitting MLAs are likely to join the United Democratic Party (UDP).
Two suspended Congress legislators are Process T Sawkmie (Mawlai) and Mayralborn Syiem (Nongpoh), HSPDP’s Renikton L Tongkhar (Mawkyrwat), TMC’s Shitlang Pale (Sutnga-Saipung) and Independent Lambor Malngiang (Nongkrem) are likely to resign on Monday.
Earlier on Wednesday, former TMC MLAs Marthon Sangma (Mendipathar) and Jimmy D Sangma (Tikrikilla) had also resigned to shift to NPP camp in the upcoming Assembly polls.
Three more MLAs – Hamletson Dohling, Jason S Mawlong (both from PDF) and Samlin Malngiang (HSPD) – resigned to join the NPP last week.
The other sitting MLAs who have resigned include Benedic R Marak, Ferlin CA Sangma, Himalaya S Shangpliang, Samuel Sangma, Ampareen Lyngdoh, Mohendro Rapsang, Kimfa S Marbaniang and SG Esmatur Mominin.
