SHILLONG/MAWKYRWAT, Jan 23: Meghalaya TMC has strengthened its base in South West Garo Hills district and Umroi constituency with the induction of several leaders from NPP and UDP. Similar has been the story for the HSPDP, which received a shot in the arm after leaders of UDP and Congress joined the party on Monday.
In South West Garo Hills, GSU president Salman D Sangma and member Rockey Marak joined the TMC in the presence of Ampati MLA Miani D Shira.
Welcoming the newest members, Shira said everyone who has joined the TMC has taken a risk to fight the current dispensation.
Meanwhile, reacting to his induction, Salman said, “I have joined TMC as I like their ideology, which focuses on secularism and federalism. Today, I would like to thank all the leaders who welcomed me to the party.”
Meanwhile, in Umroi constituency, more than 50 leaders of UDP and NPP joined the TMC in the presence of party vice president George B Lyngdoh and TMC MP Derek O’Brien.
During the programme, George assured of uplifting the lives of the people of the constituency and asked the electorates to repose faith in the party.
HSPDP gains ground in Mawkyrwat
Meanwhile, the HSPDP received a shot in the arm in Mawkyrwat constituency after two leaders of the UDP and one Congress leader, along with their supporters, joined the party during a programme in Mawlangwir village, 1 km from Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills.
The UDP leaders who joined the HSPDP are Losmander Marwein and Kaspar Jyrwa. Similarly, Maxstanroy Jyrwa was the Congress leader who joined the HSPDP.
The newest inductees were welcomed into the party by HSPDP’s Mawkyrwat candidate Medalsing Lyngdoh and HSPDP Mawkyrwat president Nolipstar Lyngdoh.
Meanwhile, Nolipstar has exuded confidence that the party will win from Mawkyrwat constituency despite losing their MLA Renikton L Tongkhar to the UDP.
Speaking to media persons after joining the party, Losmander said the reason he and other leaders of the UDP joined the HSPDP was because they were not due recognition by Tongkhar and his supporters, who joined UDP recently.
He also said that Tongkhar will taste defeat in the upcoming elections.
