Guwahati, Jan 31: The Assam Trinamool Congress has constituted a five-member committee to oversee the preparations of the party for the ensuing panchayat elections in the state.

The committee comprises party’s general secretary, Gajendra Prasad Upamanyu; chairman of the media department of Assam TMC, Dilip Kumar Sarma; Tarit Chatterjee and Sheikh Mohammad Sadique as members and Arup Jyoti Bhuyan as convenor, an order by Assam Trinamool Congress president Ripun Bora said on Tuesday.

Accordingly, the committee will oversee the party’s organisational preparations ahead of the polls and provide suggestions thereof; formulate the party’s strategy, prepare the manifesto and talking points, and plan the poll campaign.

Besides, the committee will also assess the prospective seats that the party would contest and take note of any other matters related to the panchayat elections.

The committee will thereafter put forward their views and observations before the Assam Trinamool Congress president.

“Assam TMC is taking the panchayat polls in the state very seriously for which the party’s president has constituted the committee. We are preparing the poll strategy in a bid to strengthen our organisational base in the state,” Assam TMC’s media department chairman Dilip Kumar Sarma said.
