Shillong, Jan 30: Meghalaya lost their final match of the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy by seven wickets to Punjab in Nagpur, on Sunday.
It was another performance that showed that the squad has real potential, though batting is a particular weakness that requires development.
Punjab won the toss and opted to field first, restricting Meghalaya to 106/9 in their 50 overs. Sejal Raut (who was among the top 25 batters in the tournament with 209 runs) hit her second half-century before falling for exactly 50. Vaincy Chaudhary (14) and Ankita Sharma (11) were the only other Meghalaya batters to reach double figures.
In the chase, Punjab lost a wicket in only the third over plus one each in the 18th and 19th but still sailed through in 26.3 overs.
Riticia Nongbet ended with figures of 1/18, Debasmita Dutta 1/28 and Sharma 1/32.
Ajima Sangma finished in the top 50 bowlers with nine wickets, while Dutta was in the top 100 with seven.
