Dadenggre, Feb 4: Not taking too kindly to comments by MLA James Sangma, who allegedly stated that many NGOs had opposed the idea of a separate district, the GSU – Dadenggre region has sought a clarification asking those parties to be named.
“In his campaign, he (James) stated that some of the NGOs from Dadenggre do not want it to be upgraded to the full-fledged District. I urge our MLA to clarify which NGOs had gone to you and submitted a memorandum to this effect. The clarification must be very clear as the demand for upgradation is very genuine and has been since 1989,” said GSU president, Tengsan Marak.
He added that the demand for a separate district was not only of the NGOs but also of the people of the area.
As per the release by the NGO, James had mentioned that some NGOs from the Tikrikilla and Raksamgre area did not want to include themselves in the new district.
“We are only seeking a clarification on the matter and want the names of those persons or NGOs who opposed the demand. Further we would like to know how a peaceful demand for district will turn into a law and order situation,” added Tengsan.
Tengsan stated that several meetings were held in the area and all of it went off peacefully.
“He should have voiced this demand in the Assembly but there was not one time that he approached the House to look into the demand for a separate district and felt the MLA was lying due to his failure to do so.
We strongly condemn such false imputation which is directly or indirectly harming all NGOs of Dadenggre. We demand a speedy clarification from his end within 48 hours or within 72 hours, we will hold an emergent meeting with all NGOs and work on what needs to be done,” asserted Tengsan.
James is in a pitched battle with AITC candidate, Rupa Marak, who is looking to topple the 3 time MLA after himself coming second the last time.
