SHILLONG, Feb 7: A total of 379 candidates, including 37 women, have filed their nominations for the February 27 election to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
Tuesday was the last day for filing of nomination.
59 sitting MLAs, barring Mawphlang MLA Eugeneson Lyngdoh, and including Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh and Opposition leader Mukul Sangma, are seeking re-election.
Conrad is contesting the polls from South Tura constituency while UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh is seeking re-election from Mairang.
Former chief minister Mukul Sangma of the TMC is contesting two seats — Songsak and Tikrikilla.
MPCC chief and Lok Sabha member Vincent H Pala is attempting to make his debut in the Assembly from Sutnga-Saipung constituency.
Several former ministers and MLAs are also in the fray.
The scrutiny of the nominations will be held on Wednesday while the last date for withdrawal of nominations has been fixed as February 10. The elections will be held on February 27 while the votes will be counted on March 2.
