SHILLONG, Feb 7: Former MLA and Congress candidate from Mylliem, Ronnie V Lyngdoh termed the MDA as a government of scams and irregularities.
“Corruption is everywhere, be it in coal, Saubhagya, rice scam or Covid scam. Talk about any scam and the MDA has a hand in it,” Lyngdoh said.
“They may deny but it only strengthens the allegations. They have also withdrawn the general consent to the CBI to conduct an inquiry in the state. What more they have to say?” he added.
Pointing out that whenever there is a scam an inquiry is a must to ascertain whether the allegations are true or false, Lyngdoh said, “When there is an allegation why are they scared of instituting a CBI inquiry?”
He recalled that the Congress had brought legislation like the RTI Act to curb corruption and also instituted the Lokayukta but the NPP-led state government did not follow the criteria of appointing a retired judge to chair the Lokayukta and instead appointed a retired civil servant.
He said this only shows the intention of the MDA Government to ensure that the truth does not come out.
The Congress leader made it clear that the party had unanimously supported the ILP resolution in the House and if the Congress is voted to power at the Centre in 2024, it will ensure that ILP is implemented in Meghalaya.
Training his gun on NPP candidate and former Cabinet Minister, Hamletson Dohling, Lyngdoh accused the sitting MLA of resorting to treachery to win the last elections.
“He lied to the people and deceived them. He fooled them by claiming that if I am re-elected, I will expand the jurisdiction of the MUDA which is not a fact,” Ronnie said, reminiscing on his loss in 2018.
“After being defeated as an MLA by about 450 votes, I bounced back and won the MDC elections with a margin of 2,000 votes. This only shows that people still have confidence in me and the Congress,” he added.
