Kurbah bags silver medal in Khelo India Youth Games

SHILLONG, Feb 7: Meghalaya teenager Pynshngain Kurbah scripted history by taking the silver medal in the canoe slalom event at the Khelo India Youth Games in Madhya Pradesh.This is the first medal for Meghalaya at this edition of the Games; in the past two editions of the multi-disciplinary event the state was only able to win one bronze last year and finished with zero medals in 2020. Today, Kurbah finished second in the final of his event in a time of 98.31 seconds, behind gold medallist P Singh Rathod (76.85 seconds) of Madhya Pradesh. Gujarat’s Anak Chouhan (104.03 seconds) came third.At the time of writing this report, Meghalaya are 23rd in the medals table thanks to Kurbah’s medal.Of the other North East states, Manipur are 11th with 3 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze, while Sikkim are 20th (1 gold, 1 bronze). Arunachal Pradesh are 25th with 3 bronze, while Assam and Mizoram have 1 bronze each. Tripura and Nagaland are yet to get off the mark.
