SHILLONG, Feb 10: With TMC candidate from North Shillong Elgiva Gwyneth Rynjah already having released her manifesto, Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) East Shillong candidate Avner Pariat has now become the latest to jump on the bandwagon.
Pariat’s manifesto, which highlights his vision, priorities and goal for the constituency, was on Friday released in the presence of VPP vice president Dr Cara Chen.
After the release of the manifesto, Pariat said that he advocates innovative changes in public health, sanitation, public transportation, educational reforms, generation of employment opportunities, etc.
The VPP candidate also said that if elected, he will hold constituency clinics once in every three months, during which he will interact with the public and provide report cards regarding the work that he has started or completed.
Pariat said that he will ensure that everything that is done for the constituency such as implementation of schemes, generation of jobs, initiation of projects, etc., will be put on public domain.
According to him, doing so will bolster the ties between the elected MLA and the electorates.
“I am confident that the constituency clinics will curb corruption by opening up channels of communication encouraging transparency. I strongly advocate that power must go back to the people,” he said.
In his manifesto, Pariat also mentioned how he will utilise the Rs 2.5 crore of the MLA scheme in the first year.
He said that he will reserve Rs 50 lakh for contingency/emergency fund, Rs 40 lakh for development of dorbar shnong hall, Laitumkhrah, with office spaces, Rs 50 lakh for development of new market spaces (subject to availability of land in Demseiniong and Keating Road), among others.
Pariat also assured that he will create community laundromats in watershed areas like Wahkdait, Demseiniong, besides install and upgrade children’s playgrounds, mini stadiums and parks in the constituency.
“I will develop a nature walk and picnic spots along the Cleve Colony-Malki forest area,” he said.
In a bid to develop healthy and cordial relations between the Khasis and non-Khasis, Pariat said he will host events to bring different communities together on a regular basis.
“We will tie up with schools and conduct programmes to have cultural exchange between communities. We will fight to ensure the constituency is free of harassment and intimidation. We will ensure that paperwork permits, licenses are given fast and without extortion,” he added.
