MAWKYRWAT, Feb 11: Launching a scathing attack on the state’s ruling dispensation, TMC MP Derek O’Brien has called the NPP an “agent of the BJP” for reportedly keeping mum about the atrocities meted out to the Christian minorities in different parts of the country.
Addressing the Youth Empowerment Rally, which was organised on Saturday by the TMC Mawkyrwat Block at Nativity Stadium, Mawkyrwat, the MP said, “We are all Indians first, then we belong to different communities and different religions and that is the beauty of India, and we need to protect this beauty. What is happening in India? Why are churches being burned in Assam, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and why is a political party here in Meghalaya working as an agent as a puppet of the BJP?.”
Casting aspersions on the Congress, he said the party has become a “sleeping party” and it is the TMC which has been fighting in the national capital for the inclusion of Khasi language in the Eight Schedule.
He also exuded confidence about the TMC forming the government in Meghalaya and said that the party has a very good chance of winning the Mawkyrwat seat due to its candidate with a good family background.
It may be mentioned that the rally, which was attended by hundreds of party supporters, was also attended by TMC candidate from Mawkyrwat Sounder Strong Cajee and president of TMC Youth Wing Mawkyrwat Block, Benjohnson Lyngdoh.
