UDP can win all 7 seats in Jaintia Hills: Kyrmen

SHILLONG, Feb 11: Cabinet minister, Kyrmen Shylla on Saturday said UDP is a force to reckon with in Jaintia Hills, where it stands a good chance of winning all the seven seats.
Speaking to media persons here, Shylla who is contesting the polls as UDP candidate from Khliehriat, said UDP, which is banking on good support of people, has a chance of winning all the seven seats. “I believe the people will shower me with the same love like in 2018,” he said adding he considers his all opponents tough and he is making his best attempt to ensure his re-election.
On being asked about the issue of coal mining in Meghalaya, he admitted that the livelihood of the people has been affected following the NGT’s ban on coal mining in 2014.
“The government needs to do more and if our alliance forms the government. We will discuss the matter with all stakeholders to devise a way so that people’s livelihood issue is taken care of keeping in mind the protection of the environment as far as coal mining is concerned,” he said.
