Nongpoh, Feb 13: In a suspected case of food poisoning, more than 40 persons hailing from Nongkhrah village in Ri Bhoi district of the state including women and children were admitted to hospitals a day after attending a bachelor’s party at the village on February 10.

As per sources,  the attendees of the bachelor’s party were mostly local residents and that on the next morning more than 40 of them, who had allegedly consumed pork during the party, fell sick. They were rushed to Nongpoh Civil Hospital  and Bethany Hospital, Pahamsyiem for treatment.

Those  who did not consumed pork in party, did not have any health issues so far, which has led to suspicion that the pork served during the party was contaminated.

In this connection, a team of doctors from Civil Hospital in Nongpoh are conducting an investigation to find out the reasons of sickness and samples were also taken from few people which will be sent to a laboratory outside the state for thorough testing.
