Abduction case leads to arrest of ‘drug peddler’

SHILLONG, Feb 12: In an interesting case in East Jaintia Hills, police rescued an abducted person who subsequently turned out to be a drug peddler.
Police received information at 3 pm on Sunday that one Masoom Choudhary (20) has been kidnapped by 5-6 unidentified persons, who were on board a local taxi (ML-11-7172), the district police chief Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said.
Police personnel were then put to task of finding the kidnappers and rescue the victim. Around 4:30 pm, a team from Khliehriat Police Station was able to rescue the victim and his kidnappers were detained and brought to Khliehriat PS.
During preliminary interrogation, it was revealed that the kidnapped person was in fact a drug peddler who had delivered a soap box of heroin to the accused persons. However, he was kidnapped after the persons took the delivery of the drugs.
The kidnappers had also demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh for Choudhary to be released.
The accused persons led the police to the vehicle and the soap box comprising heroin weighing 15 grams was seized along with six mobile Phones.
Seven people including the kidnappers and the drug peddler have been apprehended. They have been identified as Damewanhi Rymbai (28), Hilari Dkhar (24), Wanmi Muksor (30), Deimon Shadap (29), Deibor Sutnga (31), Banjop Sukhlain (25) and Masoom Choudhary (20).
