Shillong, Feb 14: Meghalaya Police Service officer, Gabriel Iangrai has claimed that he is a victim of high-level political Khaki vedanta and that there is imminent threat to his life and his family members.
Talking to reporters after his release from the Shillong District jail here on Tuesday, Iangrai said that he had to hide after learning that they were going raid his house on November 2 since he feared that they might do the same episode what they had done to former HNLC leader, late Cheristerfield Thangkhiew since the same people are the mastermind.
“I am a victim of a high-level conspiracy which is beyond my mind. I don’t know which political parties, political agents or terrorist agents are responsible for this conspiracy,” he said.
He further said that there were many people who doubted the medals which he had got.
‘I got the medals due to my sheer hard work and without a stain of blood. But there are many who are wearing the medals in their chest that are stained with blood of innocent people in them,” MPS officer said.
Iangrai said that there were so many inquiries which had been instituted, whether it was about the late Cheristerfield or the death of police officer, PJ Marbaniang (who was killed after he had resisted the release of as many as 32 seized trucks which had violated NGT ban on transportation of coal in 2015).
“But no one knows about the outcome of these inquiries,” MPS officer said.
He however, claimed that he was never informed that there was an inquiry instituted against him adding that the report of the inquiry was leaked to the media even before they had recorded his statement.
Iangrai also questioned if it was fair to record his statement which was only formality since his case was already exposed to the world.
MPS officer claimed that as an AIG (A) serving for three-and-a-half years, he did not leak a single secret information to the press.
“But how did my inquiry report leaked out even before it was completed,” he questioned.
“There are so many people who are scared since I am so efficient. Above me, there are five more level senior officers. But they feel that they do not have work anymore,” MPS officer said.
Stating that he has so many things to reveal and he has sufficient evidence which he is going to use them now.
Meanwhile, Iangrai claimed he was put under constant duress and it started since August last year.
“I have been treated by the present DGP like a harijan and my ST status was never respected. I have something much to tell,” he said.
He said that he was not a very healthy person and inspite of this fact, they had put me under constant duree.
“I have an ailing mother of 74 years who is a cancer survivor with 20 percent vision. My mother’s house, my quarter and my brother’s house were raided. They have even used artificial intelligence and whatever conversation I made is being tapped. Even your phone is being tapped,” MPS officer said.
Iangrai said that whatever pressure they have put on him and still he has faith in the judiciary and no one else.
“I don’t belong to any group. Fine I am only human and I might be aired somewhere. Why are they crucifying me like this? What about the other people who have so many cases against them?” MPS officer questioned.
Citing an example, he said that there is a particular case which is over 20 years old that involve names of prominent people including those who have retired and there are some who are on the verge of retirement.
“But no one has gone to arrest them. My question to the CID branch is what they have done to many scams. You may talk about Anti Corruption. If I am corrupt, let the court decide. I don’t mind being hanged if it is as per the Constitution,” Iangrai said.
He said that in his 20 years of service, he does not have any mansion nor has house or land anywhere.
“I am staying with my mother and in an official quarter. Please check the affidavits filed by the people who are contesting the elections. I want to know whether the CID and ACB has taken note of this and questioned them. Why am I made a scapegoat?” MPS officer questioned.
It may be mentioned that Iangrai was arrested in connection with siphoning off Rs 35 lakh in the construction of at Shillong Sadar Police Station.
The MPS officer was granted bail by the district and session court in two cases. The court had granted bail on February 7 in relation to the alleged diversion of funds in the construction of the National Emergency Response System (NERS) building at Sadar police station.
Earlier, on February 3, he was granted in another case related to supply of dry ration.
