MAWKYRWAT, Feb 16: More than 80% of the NPP supporters from Ranikor constituency have come forward to support him and the UDP for the February 27 Assembly elections, claimed Ranikor MLA and UDP’s candidate from Ranikor, Pius Marwein.
Marwein made the claim during a public meeting at Wahkaji village recently, where he welcomed some of the top leaders of the NPP Ranikor Block and National People’s Youth Front (NPYF) Ranikor Block along with their supporters from Warsan Lyngdoh area who have decided to join the UDP and support him in the upcoming elections.
“80% of the supporters of the NPP from Ranikor Constituency have come forward to support the UDP in this election. I don’t want to say all of them even though I know that it is more than that. I have met the NPP leaders from Warsan Lyngdoh, Rangthong, Ngunraw and other areas one after another and they have assured to support us in this election. I can tell you that about half of them (NPP supporters) have joined the UDP like you did today, while half of them have given assurance that they will support us in this election,” Marwein said in his address to the gathering.
The joining of NPP leaders and supporters has instilled confidence in the people on who to support in the polls, and has inspired the UDP leaders and supporters in the constituency, according to the UDP candidate.
“As of now, we are confident of winning this upcoming election. …but I tell you that we are not taking the elections lightly though we are sure of winning and we will continue to work hard till the election day,” the said as he sought the cooperation of all leaders and supporters throughout the constituency.
It may be recalled that less than a month before polls, five-time MLA and former Assembly Speaker, Martin M Danggo, who was declared NPP candidate from Ranikor constituency, jumped ship to the BJP and is now set to contest the upcoming elections on BJP ticket.
The NPP leaders who recently joined the UDP are NPP Ranikor Block’s assistant secretary, Kynsai Sangriang, NPYF secretary of Warsan Lyngdoh area, Seiborlang Thongni, and other leaders of the primary units of the NPP from Warsan Lyngdoh area.
