SHILLONG, Feb 17: As Garo Hills is headed for a multi-cornered battle between the NPP, its ally BJP, opposition TMC and grand old party Congress, with big political guns holding campaigns rigorously of late, NPP leader James Sangma is optimistic about his party securing 18-20 seats in the region out of the 24 on offer.
It is pertinent to note that all national parties have been laying more focus on Garo Hills region recently by holding a spate of election campaigns.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, James asserted that the NPP’s political prospects in Garo Hills are quite positive and the party is ready to face any challenges thrown at it by the political behemoths.
Pointing out that the TMC is yet to prove its mettle in Meghalaya, James said that all the aggressive campaigns of the TMC will be in vain.
He also said that the development brought about the NPP in Meghalaya is apparent because of infrastructural projects such as PA Sangma Stadium in Tura and Tribal Research Centre in Babadam, and welfare programmes such as FOCUS and YESS Meghalaya.
