Jolt to PM’s Tura rally over stadium

SHILLONG, Feb 18: A controversy has broken out over denial of permission to use the PA Sangma stadium for holding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election rally scheduled for February 24.
The stadium, which is under administrative control of state government, is the largest open space of Tura.
Livid over the non-cooperation, BJP has accused NPP of knee-jerk response after Amit Shah’s blitzkrieg.
Conrad Sangma’s rival and BJP vice president Bernard Marak, on Saturday, said that Chief Minister was shaken after the visit of Union Home Minister to Tura.
He said that the BJP had applied for permission to hold PM’s mega election rally on February 24 but was denied.
BJP alleged that when it applied for permission, the authorities in Tura including the District Sports Officer told them that the stadium had not been handed over to him as it is yet to be completed. “This only shows that Conrad Sangma is rattled and scared after the visit of Home Minister in Tura,” he added.
The stadium was in the news earlier after Chief Minister inaugurated the incomplete stadium in December last year.
