NONGSTOIN, Feb 21: A common platform for the eight candidates of Nongstoin Assembly constituency was organised on Tuesday at Nongstoin market by the Village Dorbar of New Nongstoin, where all the candidates exposed their stand and promises to the people.
The campaign was started by the UDP where party campaigners LG Nongsiej, Sandarson Kharbani, Marbiang Nongsiej and UDP candidate Polestar Nongsiej took the stage to deliver speeches.
The speakers slammed NPP for allegedly being unable to fulfil the promises made during the 2018 elections which include the abolition of personal interview in the District Selection Committee (DSC), to lift the ban on coal mining, to provide employment to each family, et al. They also slammed the NPP’s Lok Sabha MP, Agatha Sangma, for supporting CAA and NPP Rajya Sabha MP, WR Kharlukhi, who was silent on the issue of implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the whole country.
UDP candidate Polestar Nongsiej said that if he got elected, he would work for the betterment of every citizen and he assured that he won’t intervene in the DSC exams or any departmental work which is supposed to provide benefits to the people of the constituency. He assured to follow in the footsteps of Late Hopingstone Lyngdoh.
TMC took the stage as the second campaigner and Hubert Kharbani and party candidate Macmillan Kharbani delivered speeches.
Kharbani promised good and clean governance, abolishment of the partial appointment of post in DSC and allowing the youths to compete in the interviews without any political intervention. He also highlighted the different schemes which would be introduced by the TMC.
Taking the stage as the third campaigners, the Congress, through its candidate Gabriel Wahlang, harped on hike in the prices of essential commodities, declining economy, lesser employment opportunities, etc. The party has promised employment to the youths, and improved livelihood to farmers, teachers as well as the daily wagers.
Independent candidate Stainbinel Wanniang raised his flag alone in the campaign as he vowed to take Nongstoin forward.
Menawhile, HSPDP candidate Sanjied Kynsai Shangrit said his agenda is not to make money or profit in business, but to only serve the people in the constituency.
BJP candidate Diostar Jyndiang, on the other hand, said he has lost faith in the regional parties while saying that he aspires to bring a change by representing a national party. “The regional parties have cheated us by bringing the Chief Minister who at that time was not even an MLA,” he said.
Sitting MLA and NPP candidate Macmillan Byrsat, told the people that his attachment to the people of Nongstoin would go back to when we was the Lyngdoh of Hima Nongstoin. He claimed to have been accessible for the people who needed his help unlike other candidates who only turn up during elections.
