Don Bosco skill development centre launched in NGH

Tura, Feb 22: The newly constructed Administrative Block of Green Skills Development Centre at Joropara in North Garo Hills was recently blessed and inaugurated by Rev Fr George Chalissery SDB the Extraordinary Visitor to the Salesian Province of Guwahati delegated by The Rector Major from Rome.

Sponsored by Don Bosco Mondo and BMZ Germany, the centre is the first of its kind in Northeast India and making it a proud moment for the region.

Fr George Challisery, while speaking as the Chief Guest, emphasised the importance of protecting and caring for mother earth. He congratulated the noble initiative of Bosco Reach Out and observed that it will go a long way in paving the route to train and equip the present generation of youth with the needed green skills in the future. He expressed hope that the centre will benefit a lot of youngsters and encouraged the people present to avail the facilities and services provided by the centre.

Speaking on the occasion, Bosco Reach Out Consultant, P K Bora made the gathering aware of the future prospects of equipping the youth with green skills as a response to the present-day climate emergencies. “The centre will train the youth of the region on green skills related to different aspects solar energy, bio gas, organic farming, water conservation, soil conservation, etc., which will contribute toward moving to a sustainable lifestyle.

Speaking on the occasion, Fr A. Jayaprakash SDB, the Executive Director of Bosco Reach Out thanked all those people who had contributed toward the realisation of the dream project. There was also planting of trees at the site by the dignitaries to mark the important occasion.

It is to be noted that Agriculture Training Centre at Joropara is run by Bosco Reach Out with its headquarters at Guwahati and in the past had offered various training programme to the youth, women and men from various SHGs on various aspects related to rural livelihood and improved methods of agri-horticulture and livestock management. Therefore, setting up of Green Skills Development Centre will help to reach out to a bigger base of beneficiaries with better facilities and services.
