NEHU Tura celebrates 27 years of existence

TURA, Feb 24: It was a day to remember, cherish and recognize the reward of 27 years of achievement as NEHU Tura Campus celebrated its 27th Foundation Day recently, a day that marked the 26 years of its contribution to the region.

The ceremony was attended by Prof. Sujata Gurudev, Campus In-Charge, NEHU, Tura Campus; Mr. L S Kumar, Joint Registrar, NEHU, Tura Campus; Prof. G. Singaiah, Former Vice Chancellor, Department of Management, NEHU, Tura Campus and Prof F.K. Marak, Department of Garo, NEHU, Tura Campus.

Campus In-Charge, NEHU, Tura Campus, Prof. Sujata Gurudev, while addressing congratulated all the faculty members and students on the occasion of the foundation day. She aknowledged with gratitude the congratulatory message of the the Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof PS Shukla on the occasion of the Foundation Day. She further placed on record the the efforts of the pioneers and founding fathers of the Campus like Prof Milton S Sangma, Prof. S S Khare, Prof. Eugene Thomas and  Prof. G. Singaiah each of whom contributed towards forging a great destiny for NEHU, Tura Campus. She spoke of the challenges ahead and the role of  the faculty members as  guiding stars creating new ideas, leading students  to a glorious destination.

Earlier, the event kicked off with a welcome speech by Dr. Deepak Bhagat, Associate Professor, Department of Management, who outlined the humble beginnings of the institution, the rapid progress and future objectives of Tura Campus. North-Eastern Hill University, Tura Campus was established in the year 1996 and since then the growth and success of this institution have been tremendous and today it has achieved a milestone, he said. He further read out the congratulatory message of the honourable Vice Chancellor, NEHU, Meghalaya, Prof. PS Sukhla, where he said “NEHU, Tura Campus was established to fulfill the needs of students pursuing higher education within the region and to ensure opportunities for post graduation education reach the farthest corners of the state”. Furthermore he added “Poised with a vision and mission of rise up and build, the Campus is moving towards becoming a centre for excellence”.

Prof Nikme Ch. Momin, Department of Education, expressed her gratitude towards all the teaching, non teaching staffs and students. She said like every year the foundation day is celebrated and for that matter it is the time to reflect on the beginning, that the work has taken place and since the inception changes have come taking the way for success over the years. She also reminded and urged everyone to follow the university motto “Rise up and Build”.

Dr. A K Mandal, representative from non teaching staff in his address said “We do not want quantity, we believe in quality”. He furthermore underlined the fact that one needed to remember the objective of the institution.

Mr. L. S .Kumar, Joint Registrar, NEHU, Tura Campus who also spoke said “Education is equability”. He added that having worked on  Campus for the past 12 years, was a privilege  and enlightening experience especially being a part of the NEHU family.
