Shillong, March 5: Unverified video of attack on Hindi speaking migrant workforce from Bihar in Tamil Nadu created a ruckus that has snowballed into a major political controversy.

The issue became so intense that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin had to issue a statement that there was no threat to the Bihari migrant labourers working in Tamil Nadu.

Purported videos on attack on migrants went viral in Bihar that led to ruckus in the state assembly where the opposition demanded resignation from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Kumar later sent a team of officials to Tamil Nadu to know if there was an actual threat to the migrant workers.

However Director General of Police of Tamil Nadu Shailendra Babu issued a statement claiming that the videos circulating on social media are not associated with an attack on Bihar migrants. He said, “The facts of the videos are twisted so as to appear that migrant workers living in Tamil Nadu are being attacked.”

MK Stalin also spoke to Nitish Kumar and assured safety of workers from Bihar living in Tamil Nadu.

A helpline has been created for the migrant workers in Tamil Nadu and they have been asked to call on the same in case they feel threatened.
