SHILLONG, March 6: The first-time MLAs have advised the youth to join politics to bring the change they seek.
Voice of the People Party MLA from Mawlai, Brightstarwell Marbaniang said young people with fresh ideas can help usher in a change in the interest of the state.
He said Mawlai is a huge constituency but he has to do his part as its representative in the 60-member House.
Marbaniang defeated his nearest rival comprehensively by 24,262 votes to get a berth in the Assembly.
Damanbait Lamare, a first-time MLA from Umroi said he would like to give shape to all the works left unfinished in the constituency over the years. He defeated the veteran George B. Lyngdoh of the Trinamool Congress.
Congress MLA from Nongstoin, Gabriel Wahlang said he is excited to take up the new role of serving his constituency.
“I will focus on agriculture and education and even though we are in opposition, the government will hopefully listen to us,” he said while thanking his voters for their support.
He said the youths should play a more important role in the state’s politics and bring in new ideas.
Charles Marngar, the first-time MLA from Mawhati said: “I don’t have money but people made me an MLA with their love.”
He would like to reciprocate the love by discharging his duty as the constituency’s representative, he added.
