On the occasion, The Shillong Times Editor Patricia Mukhim was also felicitated in recognition of her outstanding activities and commitment towards the society in the field of Journalism, Environment, Cleanliness and Social Work.
Khongdup, who was accompanied by her father and husband to the programme, said that being appointed a member of NCW was a great honour for her and that she would also take up issues that affect women and girls in Meghalaya.
During the programme, Shubham president Pushpa Bajaj demonstrated for the gathering some sanitary pads that are washable and reusable, and informed that the organisation had procured them from a firm in Odisha.
“These sanitary pads that are washable and reusable can last for up to four years and the firm which produces them is ready to come to Shillong to train the members on how to stitch these reusable sanitary pads so that the message will spread far and wide and there will be no need to procure expensive disposable sanitary napkins,” Bajaj said.
