Twitter’s 2 factor authentication to go behind paywall

Shillong, March 20: Twitter’s 2 factor authentication that strengthened the security of an account will go behind paywall from today (March 20).

The security feature via SMS would be paid and will be available only for Twitter Blue subscribers.

It was on February 15 when Twitter announced that those users who do not subscribe to Twitter Blue will have 30 days to change their 2 factor authentication settings. The security setting allows a user to receive an SMS while logging into their accounts.

In an official statement Twitter stated, “After 20 March 2023, we will no longer permit non-Twitter Blue subscribers to use text messages as a 2FA method. At that time, accounts with text message 2FA still enabled will have it disabled. Disabling text message 2FA does not automatically disassociate your phone number from your Twitter account.”

Paid Twitter subscription costs Rs 900 per month on both IOS and Android. Twitter even allows the non-Twitter Blue subscribers to have 2 factor authentication through authentication app or security key method.

Any Twitter user can change their settings by logging in their app and going to security settings from where they can change the method for two factor authentication.
