Assisted by FKJGP, forest officials seize illegal timber

TURA, March 25: Continuing its efforts to pull the plug on the ongoing illegal timber trade in the plain belt, forest officials of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), Phulbari Range, with the assistance of Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Selsella, were able to intercept a timber-laden pick-up vehicle near the Dilnapara village, West Garo Hills.
As per GHADC officials, immediately after the vehicle was intercepted around 10:15 pm on Friday, the occupants were quick to flee the scene on seeing the forest officials and the members of the FKJGP.
The vehicle (AS 25EC 4397) was carrying at least eight high-value timber.
Both the timber and the vehicle were later taken to the Phulbari Range Office.
