CRPF official suggests local youths to join force

SHILLONG/ NONGPOH, March 25: Commandant of 67th Battalion, CRPF Shillong, Alok Bhattacharya, has suggested the local youths to join the force and become a part of the national mainstream.
Bhattacharya was speaking at an event, which was conducted by the 67th Battalion, CRPF Shillong, in collaboration with Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Shillong, on Friday.
During the programme, which was organised as part of CRPF’s civic action programme, Bhattacharya also reiterated the resolve of the CRPF to continuously strive to serve the people of the country.
He also expressed his gratitude to Vivekananda Cultural Centre, the in-charge and the students there for their support in successfully carrying out the event.
The programme saw the installation of an RO Plant, distribution of medical equipment to RKM charitable dispensary and mobile dispensary, distribution of solar lamps to Seng Bhalang LP School.
Career counselling, pre-recruitment training/coaching & vocational training (Computer Training for Girls & Boys) were also conducted as part of the civic action programme.
The installations were inaugurated by Bhattacharya in the presence of in-charge Swami Divyaswarupanandaji Maharaj, deputy in-charge Br. Vairagya Chaitanya Maharaj, students of Vivekananda Cultural Centre and CRPF officials and personnel.
Civic action programme in Ri-Bhoi
Meanwhile, Bhattacharya on Saturday inaugurated the renovated school building of Seng Khasi Primary School at Purangang, Marngar, in Ri-Bhoi, as part of the CRPF’s civic action programme.
Addressing the gathering, Bhattacharya informed that the locals had approached the 67th Bn CRPF for assistance, with a specific request for the renovation of the school.
“Fortunately, we are very happy that our proposal has been approved by the government, and we could launch ourselves into this project. Within a very short period of time, we have been able to build multiple classrooms which, I am sure, will help the youth and residents of the area in times to come,” Bhattacharya said.
He also informed that once the work had commenced, some people even came forward to contribute towards the renovation.
With the available resources from the CRPF and the local people, we could complete the project within a very short period of time, Bhattacharya said.
As part of the civic action programme, the CRPF also distributed sports items to the Sankardev Secondary School, Marngar.
The programme was attended by the principal of Seng Khasi Primary School, Miliancy Khongwet, vice principal of Sankardev Secondary School, Arundhati Paul, as well as the teachers and students of the schools.
