SHILLONG, March 28: The second phase of talks between Assam and Meghalaya to resolve the interstate boundary issue in the six remaining areas of dispute is likely to take place by the end of April of early May, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said he is in regular touch with his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma over the issue at a personal level.
“Officially, we will try to work it out sometime in the later part of April or maybe in May,” he said.
The government wants the re-constituted regional border committees to sit down and do their homework to get familiarised with the issues before the talks officially begin, he said.
The six areas to be taken up for discussion in the second phase include Langpih in West Khasi Hills, Borduar, Nongwah-Mawtamur, Desh Doomreah and Block-II in Ri-Bhoi, and Block-I and Psiar-Khanduli in West Jaintia Hills.
