Search operation launched in Punjab after pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh ‘spotted’

Shillong, March 29: Even as the search operation in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district continued late Tuesday evening, pro-Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh and his aide Papalpreet Singh once again gave police the slip. Two individuals who were with the Khalistani separatists when they were fleeing have been arrested by the police.

According to the police, they were pursuing a white Innova that was travelling from Phagwara to Hoshiarpur because they believed Amritpal Singh and his aides might be inside. The vehicle drove via a police checkpoint before coming to a stop in Mehtiana’s Gurdwara.

According to the CID unit in Hoshiarpur, the suspect got out of the car close to the Gurdwara and fled.

The two people who were arrested were behind the Innova vehicle. According to authorities, both were living in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh but were originally from Punjab.

A search operation has been launched by Punjab police many districts of the state.

A senior official of police said, “On Tuesday evening, team of counter intelligence was chasing one white coloured Innova Car Number PB10CK0527 which was coming from Phagwara to Hoshiarpur. There was suspicion that it might have Amritpal Singh, president of Waris Punjab De and his associates in the car”.

He said that after knowing, they are being chased the suspects left the car at Gurdwara Bhai Chanchal Singh Village, Mehtiana and fled away.
