SHILLONG, March 31: Suspended Meghalaya police officer Gabriel K. Iangrai was released from the Shillong district jail on Thursday night after securing bail from the District and Sessions Court in all the six cases filed against him.
Talking to a section of reporters on Friday, Iangrai’s advocate, P. Yobin said that the first case is related to the construction of the Nationwide Emergency Response System (NERS) building in Shillong.
Two more cases were filed against Iangrai in connection with anomalies in the supply of dry rations and supply of vehicles for Covid-19 activities.
Yobin said that the CID filed three more cases against Iangrai after which they moved for an arrest warrant before the District and Sessions Court.
“We were able to move anticipatory bail applications in all those cases. Finally, he (Iangrai) was granted bail in two cases on Wednesday and two more cases on Thursday. He was earlier granted bail in another two cases,” Iangrai’s lawyer said, adding that no chargesheet has been filed in any of the cases.
Yobin also said that the suspended police officer was admitted to a city hospital after his release from jail.
