Shillong, April 3: In the Shivamogga region of Karnataka, a newborn was apparently killed by a stray dog who was seen dragging the body near the maternity wing of a government hospital.

Around 7 in the morning on Saturday, security personnel at McGann District Hospital said they chased the dog away after observing it racing around the hospital’s maternity ward with what seemed to be a newborn infant in its mouth.

The incident has led city officials to examine the threat posed by stray dogs in the area. By the time it was taken for examination, the infant had already died.

Authorities are currently attempting to determine if the infant passed away before the dog attacked him or due to the dog bite. The parents of the child are still unidentified.

The infant’s death was reported to the police, and the autopsy will reveal the precise moment of the infant’s death. To verify records of pregnant women, officials have started to check all neighbouring private and public hospitals.
