JOWAI, April 10: The HITO, Shangpung unit, on Monday filed a police complaint against the collapse of a recently constructed footbridge in West Jaintia Hills.
The footbridge in question is located over the Moolashah river in Khliehmuchut Shangpung, West Jaintia Hills, and was constructed under a scheme of the Soil and Water Conservation department.
The footbridge had collapsed on Sunday afternoon.
In the complaint filed with Raliang Police Outpost, HITO Shangpung unit secretary attributed the collapse of the footbridge to the “failure” of the department concerned to ensure the quality of work was not compromised.
The HITO said that they strongly suspect that the funds earmarked for construction of the footbridge was not fully utilised.
In this regard, it also urged the police to investigate the matter and subsequently take action against the person responsible for the poor construction of the footbridge.
