Shillong, April 23: Dharmpal Singh, a BJP leader and minister for Uttar Pradesh, claimed on Sunday that the opposition was responsible for the murder of gangster and murder accused Atiq Ahmad. Singh claimed that Ahmed was going to expose a lot of information following his detention, which resulted in his death.

Last week, Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were killed in Prayagraj while being taken for medical examination. Atiq was charged with the 2005 murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal and murder of Umesh Pal, a crucial witness in the BSP leader’s death.

“The opposition is in fact responsible for killing Atiq” Singh said. According to Singh who is the state’s minister of animal husbandry and dairy development, “Some serious secrets were about to be revealed, which is why the opposition got him murdered.” Singh said.

Atiq and Ashraf were speaking to the media outside a hospital in Prayagraj when three persons posing as journalists shot at them. Lovelesh Tiwari, Sunny Singh, and Arun Maurya were eventually identified as the shooters after they were quickly arrested by police.

The Special Investigation Team recreated the scene of the shooting death of Atiq and his brother as a Judicial Committee appointed by the Uttar Pradesh government visited Prayagraj earlier on Thursday. For additional investigation, the police squad travelled to the hotel where Atiq’s murderers had stayed before the crime.

In Banda, Uttar Pradesh, the SIT team has detained three of Lovelesh Tiwari’s friends. According to the police, the SIT team has also arrived in Hamirpur and Kasganj to continue their probe.
