SHILLONG, April 23: The Meghalaya Trinamool Congress on Sunday censured the state government for hiding the probe reports on the MeECL and rice scams and not making them public despite an assurance by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on the floor of the House.
“The Deputy Chief Minister should not forget that the promises made on the floor of the Assembly and also through his office to the people should be fulfilled,” TMC’s state vice president, George B. Lyngdoh said.
“Perhaps, they are trying to hide the reports from the people. We want them to be made public as it involves public money,” he said.
In 2022, Tynsong assured the House that the copies of the reports would be shared with MLAs.
The Justice (retd) RN Mishra-headed commission, which probed the alleged irregularities in the MeECL, submitted its report to the government in March this year.
It was assigned to look into records and make recommendations concerning the functioning of the MeECL and its three subsidiary companies – Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Ltd, Meghalaya Power Transmission Corporation Ltd, and Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. The probe covered the period from April 1, 2010, to March 31, 2021.
The state government also received the report of the “independent” probe into the rice scam.
The inquiry was conducted by Justice (Retired) Mool Chand Garg.
Justice Garg, who retired from the Madhya Pradesh High Court, was asked to inquire into the matter of rice allotted to Milkose (India) Limited for the supplementary nutrition programme (SNP) found in the godown at Boko.
None of these reports has been made public so far.
