Cleaning drive in Umpling brings residents together

SHILLONG, April 25: In line with the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s call for a cleaner city, clean rivers and strict garbage management in a meeting called on April 14 last, a cleaning drive-cum-awareness campaign was undertaken at Them Lumdiengmet locality of Umpling on Saturday, the Secretary of Dorbar Shnong Umpling, L Jyrwa informed.
Jyrwa said that the residents of the area including the house owners and tenants including those owning the properties in the area participated in the cleaning drive along with the members of Operation Clean-Up which includes Shillong My Passion, Martin Luther Christian University, Col Sishupal Security Consultancy Company (CSSC), Kiddies Corner School, the staff of Shillong Municipal Board and volunteers from the Umpling Dorbar Shnong including the garbage truck drivers. Everyone lent their selfless service in cleaning up the area.
The Dorbar Shnong Umpling has expressed its gratitude to all those involved in the cleaning drive.
It may be mentioned that this particular locality borders Nongmynsong and the River Umkaliar acts as a natural boundary.
On the sidelines, the Dorbar has warned that any resident or passerby caught throwing garbage carelessly in any part of the locality will not only be fined but will also be dealt with severely in accordance with the law as provided in the District Council Solid Waste Management Act 2022 and also the Meghalaya Solid Waste Management Act.
