Shillong, April 26: Meghalaya government has found a way to deliver life-saving medicines at state’s far flung and inaccessible areas through use of drones.

The state health department has already pressed into action drones for the purpose and conducted more than 150 drone sorties so far, according to the Secretary of the Health Department Ramkumar S.

One such drone can carry load of 5-6 kgs of medicines per sortie. As of now, one drone station has been set up at Jengjal in West Garo Hills even as Government is gearing up to develop few more such stations in West Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi and even East Khasi Hills district.

However, the department is facing challenge in flying drones in East Khasi Hills as the area falls under red zone due to its close proximity with Bangladesh and the state government is following up the matter with the Ministry of Defence, Government of India.
