TURA, May 2: A Bangladeshi national lost his life after he was brutally thrashed by an irate mob in Purakhasia village, South West Garo Hills, on Monday evening for illegally entering Indian territory.
As per reports, BSF personnel deployed near the Indo-Bangladesh border had reported sightings of at least three Bangladeshi nationals, who they felt had crossed the border during the night. However, the trio could not be found by the BSF personnel.
However, one Bangladeshi national, Monirul Hussain, made his way into Purakhasia where he was apprehended by locals of the area before being thrashed by a mob in a brutal fashion.
“We were informed about the incident only later and rushed to the spot to intervene. We were able to take him out of the place before bringing him back to the PS. He had suffered multiple injuries, including ones to the head. An ambulance was arranged and he was rushed to the Tura Civil Hospital late last night. However, this morning at about 7:40 am, he succumbed to his injuries,” said a highly placed police source from WGH.
Before being moved to Tura Civil Hospital, Hussain said that he had entered the Indian territory alone to buy marijuana while his other friends stayed back in Bangladesh.
This is the second such case of forced entry by Bangladeshi nationals into India territory in the past three days.
Earlier, two other Bangladeshi nationals, who had entered the Indian territory, were apprehended by BSF men before being handed over to the police.
That entry, too, had been made through the Purakhasia side.
