SHILLONG, May 3: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai will inaugurate the Dawki Land Port on Thursday in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, Pranay Kumar Verma.
Located in West Jantia Hills, 55 km from the district headquarters, Jowai, and about 84 km from Shillong, and also one of India’s major tourist destinations, the Dawki Land Port is aimed at promoting trade and commerce between India and Bangladesh.
In addition to serving as a hub for trade and commerce between India and Bangladesh, the land port also facilitates passenger movement across the border.
Development of Dawki Land Port was approved by High Level Empowered Committee of the MHA on February 4, 2016. The land port is spread over a total area of 23 acres.
