SHILLONG, May 7: The KSU South Central Circle will hold a rally at Pynursla market at 1 pm on Monday to condemn the gunning down of 34-year-old Ronin Nongkynrih of Jalynteng village at Pomshutia. The union is demanding the immediate arrest of the BSF personnel involved in the killing.
The last rites of the victim were performed on Sunday at the eco-friendly crematorium at Jalynteng village.
KSU general secretary Donald V. Thabah on Sunday said the protest rally marks the beginning of a series of agitation against the killing.
He said that leaders of the KSU central body will attend the public rally.
Meanwhile, a senior police official said that the statements of the three BSF personnel will be recorded in due course of time.
The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has condemned the excesses committed by the BSF personnel.
VPP spokesperson, Batskhem Myrboh demanded an inquiry by the National Human Rights Commission or Meghalaya State Human Rights Commission, punishment for the guilty and adequate compensation for the victim’s family.
Sohra MLA Gavin M Mylliem, who visited the residence of Nongkynrih on Sunday, also condemned the killing. He assured the family members that he would follow up on the FIR filed at Pynursla police station.
The FKJGP Riwar Mihngi Circle has also condemned the incident and demanded the arrest of the BSF personnel.
