SHILLONG, May 8: Amid straining of relations between the NPP and the UDP in the run-up to the Sohiong Assembly poll, UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh on Monday declined to comment on remarks by a section of the NPP leadership that the party (UDP) would be asked to sit in the opposition after the declaration of results for the Sohiong election on May 13.
“I would not like to comment or react to any comments on this matter,” Lyngdoh told reporters who wanted to know the UDP chief’s mind on the threat issued by the NPP leaders.
The UDP president clarified that the party decided to join the NPP-led MDA 2.0 Government to work together on common goals which will be for the good of the state.
According to him, the party will support the ruling coalition government on any issue which is constructive and which is going to benefit the state.
Seeking to steer clear of the threat, Lyngdoh spoke about the contest among the MDA allies in Sohiong and said that every political party will try to outshine their opponent to win the seat.
“We are confident of winning the Sohiong seat,” Lyngdoh said, ducking another question on whether the UDP would bargain for an additional Cabinet berth in the MDA 2.0.
