SHILLONG, May 17: Putting its foot down on the burning issue of the roster system and the growing demand for review of the Meghalaya State reservation Policy, 1972, the state government on Wednesday virtually snubbed the VPP’s demand and said it would only stick with the discussion on the roster system and there would be no review of the job quota policy.
“The discussions (read MDA and all-party meetings) that we had called for is on the roster system and we are sticking to that. We want to clarify on the roster and decide how we should move forward,” Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said after a Cabinet meeting here.
Referring to the VPP demand for review of the reservation policy, Sangma said, “We will not discuss the reservation policy. It is not in the agenda that is coming up in the next few days.”
“Right now we are only talking about the roster system and we are sticking to that,” he added.
Earlier, during the Cabinet meeting, the ministers were given a detailed presentation on the roster system and a unanimous decision was taken to move forward with the roster system.
“A detailed presentation was given to the Cabinet today and the cabinet members were satisfied with the presentation. A few clarifications were there but we unanimously agreed on moving forward with the roster,” the CM said.
Refusing to divulge any details on the presentation, the CM said, “Roster and recruitment is a continuous process and after seeing the details of how the roster works and how the system will shape up in the future, the cabinet colleagues were satisfied with the presentation.”
He said that the same detailed presentation will be given to the MDA allies followed by a third presentation during the all-party meeting on Friday.
“We will communicate with various stakeholders from across the state within a week or ten days. We will meet members of NGOs, village organisations, social groups and other stakeholders,” the chief minister added.
