KSU Shillong Mihngi Circle president, Sunshine Nongkhlaw said they inspected several eateries in Polo, Pynthorumkhrah and Nongmensong on Tuesday following complaints from the people.
He said the KSU members were caught by surprise when a magistrate, staff of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) and police also joined them for the inspection.
The KSU leader said they inspected several eateries but most of them had cleaned up on learning of the inspection. Five were shut down for being unhygienic, he said.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety, DBS Mukhim said she will inspect the five tea stalls on Wednesday.

It may be added here that the KSU Laban Circle had recently inspected 27 tea stalls under Raid Laban area and shut down four tea stalls for the same reason.
Appayani Tea Stall (Laban), Babua Tea Stall (Lumshatsngi), Dada Stall (Red Cross) and Ruma Das Tea Stall (Last Stop) were asked to close down until they meet the standards of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
