SHILLONG, June 8: The East Khasi Hills Local Taxi Welfare Association (EKHLTWA) has filed a petition in the High Court of Meghalaya against the recent decision of the East Khasi Hills district administration to impose the odd-even traffic rule for all commercial vehicles plying towards Police Bazar and Motphran.
EKHLTWA president Wandonbok Jyrwa said the court has admitted the petition but the date for hearing is yet to be fixed.
He said that local taxis continue to ply as usual in these two areas despite the order coming into effect on June 5.
East Khasi Hills District Magistrate Rosetta Mary Kurbah had issued a notification last week stating that all public transport vehicles (SPTS buses, SSPTS maxi cabs and black and yellow local taxis) plying from Kachari Point towards Police Bazar and Motphran will operate on an odd-even basis from June 5.
