DRI seizes drugs worth over Rs 27 cr; one held

SHILLONG, June 9: In a major operation by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) against organised drug syndicates operating in the Northeast, heroin estimated at whopping Rs 27.94 crore, which was smuggled through the Indo-Myanmar border, was confiscated along the NH-6 at Mawryngkneng on Thursday.
A person was also arrested in this regard.
Officials from DRI Shillong had intercepted an SUV, following which it was rummaged.
During the search, a total of 307 soap cases containing the contraband items, weighing 3.99 kgs, were recovered and subsequently seized.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the consignment had come from Manipur via Mizoram and was worth Rs 27.94 crore in the international illicit market.
