Biz tycoon Anand Mahindra keen to visit Mawlynnong

NEW DELHI, June 11: Noted industrialist Anand Mahindra is an avid social media user, who enjoys his interesting, inspiring and witty tweets along with important life lessons, and is keen to personally visit Mawlynnong, the cleanest village in Asia, located in Meghalaya.
This time around, the industrialist has shared a list of places he wants to travel in India. From Kalpa in Himachal Pradesh to the cleanest village in Asia in Meghalaya, the Chairperson of Mahindra and Mahindra has covered the places he would like to visit whenever he gets an opportunity.
Mawlynnong’s reputation has boosted local tourism and with Mahindra’s visit and his subsequent postings in social media, it is likely to boost local tourism further. The business tycoon has over 10 million followers on Twitter.
Anand Mahindra was mesmerised by a Twitter thread about various beautiful villages in India after which the industrialist re-shared the thread and added how these places are now on his travel bucket list. Some of the villages included in the list are Mawlynnong in Meghalaya, Kollengode in Kerala, Mathoor in Tamil Nadu and Varanga in Karnataka.
“This beauty around us just left me speechless…my bucket list for travel in India now overflows….,” read the caption of the post shared by Mahindra. Mawlynnong is also known as God’s Own Garden and in 2003, it was awarded the title of the cleanest village in Asia by Discover India.
The waste is collected in the dustbins made of bamboo, directed to a pit and then used as manure.
A community initiative mandates that all residents including those in homestays should participate in cleaning up the village and smoking and use of polythene is banned while rainwater harvesting is encouraged.
