SHILLONG/NONGPOH/JOWAI, June 14: Underlining the selflessness of voluntary blood donors and the significance of donating blood, the Meghalaya Cricket Association and its affiliated bodies from various districts, viz., Shillong Cricket Association, Ri Bhoi District Cricket Association and West Jaintia Hills Cricket Association in collaboration with the State Blood Transfusion Council, Regional Blood Bank and Blood Centres organised blood donation camps on Wednesday to commemorate World Blood Donor Day 2023.
Office bearers of the district and the state associations along with the support staff and players donated blood during the day-long programme.
In Nongpoh, the president of Ri Bhoi District Cricket Association, Rayonald Kharkamni led the initiative with 10 members and officials of the association who voluntarily donated blood at the blood bank of Civil Hospital Nongpoh.
Speaking to media persons, Kharkamni said that the initiative aims to inspire others to come forward and donate blood and contribute to saving lives.
All donors were duly felicitated at the respective centres.
During the felicitation of donors at the Jowai Blood Bank Centre, Panaliar, Jowai, West Jaintia Hills, special appreciation was extended to one Specialson Turnia, who has donated blood 25 times, and Socially Kamar and Wanmi Laloo, who have come forward to donate blood 10 times each.
The district-level World Blood Donor Day celebration was organised by Jowai Civil Hospital Blood Centre on the theme ‘Give Blood, Give Plasma, Share Life, Share’. A pledge was also taken on the day.
The MCA and West Jaintia Hills District Cricket Association in collaboration with Blood Bank, Civil Hospital, Jowai, held the voluntary blood donation camp, wherein five members stepped forward to contribute to the cause.
On the occasion, around 150 personnel of BSF donated at a voluntary blood donation programme organised by the 193rd Battalion of BSF Meghalaya at its headquarters in Mawpat in collaboration with NEIGRIHMS Hospital.
A similar event was also conducted by the 181st Battalion BSF in association with Civil Hospital at the BSF camp in Tura.
IG BSF Meghalaya Sh. Pradip Kumar lauded the contribution of the BSF jawans and also expressed his gratitude to the doctors, staff and troops present on the occasion.
