MAWKYRWAT, June 25: The KSU, South West Khasi Hills, through its Education Cell, has requested West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner T Lyngdoh to provide immediate assistance of a school from Mawpud village that was recently damaged due to heavy landslides.
It may be mentioned that on June 14, the Khlur Rit Government Lower Primary School, Mawpud, suffered major damages after one house belonging to one Jopcy Wanniang, which was used as a kitchen, collapsed due to a landslide and hit the wall of the school building.
In a letter to the DC, the KSU expressed concern over the incident, stating that the same has affected schooling, especially at a time when half yearly examinations are nearing.
The school authorities have, meanwhile, decided to use the Anganwadi Centre and also asked the neighbours to temporarily provide rooms so that schooling remains unaffected.
After receiving complaints from the locals of Mawpud village, the KSU has asked the DC to provide immediate assistance to the landslide-hit school.
