SHILLONG, June 28: A ten-day skill development training programme for fruit and vegetable processing under Agro-Based Food Processing Industry verticals of Gramodyog Vikas Yojana (GVY) was on Wednesday inaugurated at Mairang Mission, Eastern West Khasi Hills.
Inaugurated by the State office, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Shillong, the training programme is being organised for the first batch of 20 artisans.
According to a statement here, the inaugural programme was attended by the various dignitaries, including the State Director of KVIC Shillong, officials from the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society (MSRLS), Dorbar Shnong, and Secretary of the Mairang Mission.
During the programme, the State Director of KVIC Shillong thanked MSRLS for its support and cooperation in identifying and converging the artisans.
He also outlined the objectives of the agro-based food processing training programme, some of which include utilisation of the locally available raw material/resources to convert them into value added products, provision of sustainable income to the artisans, rural unemployed youth and farmers, imparting of skill development programmes with new modern technologies in producing the various agro-based food products, reduction of loss of perishable agricultural products, et al.
It may be mentioned that the training programme is being conducted by master trainer Silda Thabah.
