SHILLONG, June 28: The state government is looking to rope in Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) to train its 18,000 plus teachers of various categories.
Informing this after a review meeting, Education Minister Rakkam Sangma said, “We have 18,000 untrained teachers in the state. We will be taking up the issue with IGNOU and NIOS and we will be meeting the National Testing Agency (NTA) chairman and other Union ministers”.
The Education minister and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma are scheduled to meet the Union Human Resource Minister in New Delhi and discuss issues and challenges faced by the education sector in the state including CUET.
Earlier during the day, the Education minister had inspected the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute (MATI) to check the progress of Civil Services Examination (CSE) aspirants. “We met around 125 of the aspirants undergoing training. The state government is trying its best to prepare the youths,” he said.
It may be noted that three candidates from Meghalaya have cleared the UPSC CSE prelims. “Of course it is not to our expectations and satisfaction. It would have been better if more had cleared (the prelims). We told them to work harder,” he said.
